If you are enrolled, voting at state and federal elections is compulsory — this means it is required by law.

You do not have to vote at a centre in your own suburb on election day — you can vote at any voting centre in Victoria. The VEC website has a tool to help you find your nearest one.

They will give you two ballot papers:

You take your ballot papers to a private voting screen, where no one can see how you vote. You fill them in using the steps below, fold each one, and put it in the correct ballot box.

Every box has a number, each used once. This is a formal vote.
Rules to remember:

How to fill in the larger ballot paper (Upper House)
ကဘၣ်မၤပှဲၤထီၣ် လံၥ်တၢ်ဟ့ၣ်တၢ်ဖးအဒိၣ်တက့ (လၢဘျီၣ်ဒိၣ်ထးအဂီၢ်) အံၤဒ်လဲၣ်This is the larger ballot paper for the Legislative Council. It has a thick black line across it. You can choose one of two ways to vote — choose only one way, not both.

If you vote above the line, your preferences are then passed on following that group's registered group voting ticket (a list the group has lodged showing the order they pass on preferences).

Sometimes people hand out cards near voting centres called how-to-vote cards. These show how a party would like you to number your boxes. You do not have to follow them. How you fill in your ballot paper is completely your choice, and your vote is secret.
